The Inauguration of the Riau Islands MKI at Polibatam Campus: Uuf Brajawidagda, Ph.D. Becomes the Chairperson of the Riau Islands MKI for the 2022-2026 period

NEWS-Polibatam Campus is the location for the Inauguration of the Indonesian Electricity Society/Masyarakat Ketenagalistrikan Indonesia (MKI) for the Riau Islands region for the 2022-2026 period of service. The event was held on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at the 3rd-floor studio of the Polibatam Technopreneur Center Building.

The event started with an offering dance/tari persembahan by KUAS Polibatam, followed by the screening of a safety induction video in the Polibatam environment, then continued with singing the national anthem Indonesia Raya, a collective prayer, and remarks.

This event was also attended by the Director of PLN Batam, the Chairperson of the Central MKI (online), the Head of the Riau Islands Province ESDM Office representing the Riau Islands Governor, the Regional Secretariat of the Batam City Government representing the Mayor of Batam City, the Secretary General of the Central MKI, the Deputy Head of Division 2 of the Central MKI, the Chairperson of the Riau Islands MKI, the Director of Polibatam, guests invitations and MKI administrators representing the regions of West Sumatra and North Sumatra.

Planning of the MKI formation in the Riau Islands was initiated in 2019. Due to the pandemic, it has just been realized now. It is hoped that the inaugurated MKI management could have a good impact on the field of electricity employment in the Riau Islands which is currently growing rapidly. Hopefully, we can synergize well with the government and other stakeholders.

Congratulations to the management of the Riau Islands MKI together moving forward to take care of the Riau Islands.

In his address, the MKI Mandate Holder, Mr. Nyoman Suwarjoni Astawa said, “Hopefully in the future we can become a strategic partner and become one of the inputs in electricity management in Riau Islands”. “Riau Islands MKI can contribute thoughts and discussions together with observers and all electricity stakeholders in Riau Islands. Thank you to the Chairperson of the Central MKI who is willing to inaugurate the Riau Islands MKI members, and all those who have helped make this Riau Islands MKI inauguration event a success,” said Nyoman.

The event then continued with the inauguration of the Riau Islands MKI members and the reading of a decree by the Secretary General of the MKI. After that, it was continued with the reading of the decree and the inauguration procession by the 2nd deputy chairperson, Samsul Huda. Afterward, the MKI flag was handed over from the Second Deputy Chairperson to the Elected Chairperson of the Riau Islands MKI, Uuf Brajawidagda, Ph.D.

In his remarks, the Chairperson of the Riau Islands MKI, Uuf Brajawidagda, Ph.D., said “As a mandate, I ask for your support to all stakeholders in the Riau Islands, and I ask for your support also to all members of the Riau Islands MKI”. “Hopefully we can partner with all stakeholders in the electricity sector in the Riau Islands Province,” said Uuf.

Then, in his speech, the President Director of PLN Batam, Ir. Muhammad Irwansyah Putra conveyed “congratulations to the members of the Riau Islands MKI. PLN Batam will increase the synergy and hopefully, it will be useful for the Riau Islands. PLN Batam after this pandemic is growing well. We hope that the Riau Islands MKI can synergize in the development of electricity in Batam, Bintan, Karimun, and other areas throughout the Riau Islands.”

Furthermore, in his speech, the Chairman of the Central MKI, Wiluyo Kusdwiharto, online said “MKI is here for reliable electricity management throughout the country. Congratulations to all the ranks of the Riau Islands Regional MKI Management Board. Hopefully it will always be easy for them to carry out their duties and be able to work well in providing inputs, views and regulations on the electricity sector in Riau Islands.” He hopes that with the existence of the Riau Islands MKI, they can become partners in the development and management of electricity in the Riau Islands.

The Batam City Government has contributed to reducing carbon emissions. All offices are already using LED lights that can save electricity usage, as well as other efforts to use environmentally friendly energy.

Batam City Secretary, Drs. Jefridin Hamid, M.Pd., also said “Congratulations to the elected members of the Riau Islands MKI and hopefully, they can add to their charity, because electricity is very important, especially in Batam. The MKI was formed so that electricity in Batam and Riau Islands would be even better. Batam and Riau Islands become the west door that becomes a storefront with neighboring countries. May the trust and success always go to the elected Riau Islands MKI management.”

The Head of the Riau Islands Energy and Mineral Resources Office, Muhamad Darwin, said that the challenge until now is that there are still many inhabited islands in the Riau Islands that do not have electricity 24 hours a day. Some are 12 hours, some are 7 hours and some are still not at all where the islanders provide electricity independently. It is hoped that the presence of this MKI can encourage electricity to be electrified to these islands. Congratulations to the Riau Islands MKI Management, hopefully, they can serve the Riau Islands.

After the welcoming ceremony, it was continued with the handing over of plaques from the Riau Islands MKI to invited guests and the handing over of books from the Central MKI to the Chief of the Riau Islands MKI and other invited guests. Then the administrators of the Riau Islands and Central MKI as well as invited guests took a group photo in front of the Polibatam Technopreneur Center building.

The entire Polibatam academic community said, “congratulations to the management and being able to contribute to the Riau Islands community.”
