Director General of Research and Development Promotes a Stronger Collaborative Research Ecosystem at Polibatam
BATAM – Politeknik Negeri Batam (Polibatam) hosted a discussion on the research and development ecosystem featuring the Director General of Research and Development at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Fauzan Adziman, on Friday, 17 July 2026, at Polibatam’s Technopreneur Building.
Attended by representatives from public and private higher education institutions across Batam, the event served as a platform for dialogue aimed at strengthening Indonesia’s national research ecosystem and encouraging collaboration among stakeholders to produce research that delivers meaningful benefits to society, industry, and regional development.
The forum was officially opened by Nopriadi, Head of the Higher Education Service Institution Region XVII (LLDIKTI Region XVII). In his remarks, he emphasised the importance of collaboration from the initial proposal development stage through to the downstream implementation and commercialisation of research outcomes, ensuring that innovations generate tangible benefits.
During his presentation, Director General Fauzan Adziman explained that efforts to strengthen the national research ecosystem are being carried out through two main approaches: expanding equitable access to research capacity development for emerging higher education institutions and reinforcing strategic research focused on addressing national challenges.
“We aim to improve Indonesia’s overall research capacity. Therefore, opportunities should not only be given to institutions that already have well-established research capabilities, but also to higher education institutions and lecturers who are beginning to develop a strong research culture,” Fauzan said.
He also introduced several research funding and development programmes available to higher education institutions, including the Kosabangsa Programme, the second batch of the Research Downstreaming Synergy and Technology Advancement Programme, the Deep-Tech Hackathon, and the International Research Partnership Programme. These initiatives are supported through funding from the State Budget and collaborations with the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP).
In addition, the Director General encouraged higher education institutions to strengthen partnerships with industry, regional governments, and international partners to accelerate the downstream implementation of research outcomes and enhance the global competitiveness of Indonesian research.
The discussion was highly interactive and covered a range of strategic issues, including research funding opportunities, the development of international partnerships, the strengthening of vocational education, research proposal selection mechanisms, and the use of artificial intelligence to support research activities.
Through this forum, Polibatam reaffirmed its commitment as a vocational higher education institution that actively promotes collaboration and strengthens its research culture. These efforts are expected to generate innovations that respond to industry needs and make a meaningful contribution to national development.
