Polibatam Welcomes Bappenas Visit to Discuss Strengthening the Science, Technology, and Innovation Ecosystem in Higher Education

BATAM – Politeknik Negeri Batam (Polibatam) welcomed a visit from the Directorate of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas on Friday, 26 June 2026. The visit was conducted as part of a discussion and field visit related to the study on the Governance Design for Science, Technology, and Innovation (IPTEKIN) Funding.

The activity served as a strategic discussion forum to explore Polibatam’s best practices in managing research, innovation, downstreaming, and collaboration with industry. The visit also discussed the strengthening of the role of higher education institutions in supporting national development based on science, technology, and innovation.

On this occasion, Vice Director I of Polibatam, Ahmad Riyad Firdaus, presented various learning and innovation development approaches implemented at Polibatam. He explained that Polibatam is a vocational higher education institution that applies Project Based Learning (PBL) with the CDIO approach, which stands for Conceive, Design, Implement, and Operate.

Through this approach, students do not only learn theories, but are also directly involved in the process of planning, designing, developing, and producing products or services. The projects developed by students are also based on real problems, whether from internal campus needs, the community, or industry partners.

The implementation of PBL at Polibatam also serves as a space for integrating the Tridarma of Higher Education, covering education, research, and community service. Various student works and innovations are then introduced to the public through publication platforms, exhibitions, and the PBL Expo as a form of dissemination of learning outcomes and innovations that benefit society and industry.

Through this visit, Polibatam hopes to further strengthen synergy among higher education institutions, the government, industry, and the community. This collaboration is expected to encourage the development of a more focused, sustainable, and impactful research and innovation ecosystem for national development.

The visit from the Directorate of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas also marks an important momentum for Polibatam to continue strengthening its role as a vocational higher education institution that is adaptive, innovative, and relevant to industry needs as well as the development of science, technology, and innovation in Indonesia.

Salam Polibatam!
