Polibatam Transforms Organic Waste into Compost, A Concrete Step Toward a Green Campus
BATAM – Politeknik Negeri Batam (Polibatam) continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting the Green Campus concept through sustainable waste management. One of its concrete initiatives is the conversion of organic waste into compost that benefits the campus environment.
This program utilizes organic waste generated from daily campus activities, such as food scraps, dry leaves, and other biodegradable materials. Through a composting process, this waste is transformed into natural fertilizer that supports greening efforts across the campus.
This initiative not only aims to reduce the volume of waste sent to landfills but also serves as an educational platform for the academic community on the importance of responsible and sustainable waste management.
Through this program, students are encouraged to become more environmentally conscious by actively participating in waste sorting and processing. This hands-on involvement aligns with Polibatam’s vocational education approach, emphasizing practical, real-world learning experiences.
In addition to its ecological benefits, the compost produced is used to maintain gardens and green open spaces on campus, creating a greener, more comfortable, and healthier environment.

Polibatam hopes this initiative will inspire other educational institutions to take part in preserving the environment. With a spirit of collaboration and shared awareness, Polibatam continues to strive toward becoming a campus that not only excels academically but also actively contributes to sustainable development.
Best Regards, Polibatam!
