Polibatam Holds Second Batch of Independent Entrepreneurship (WMK) Bootcamp in 2023, Building Successful Campus Start-Ups Since College

POLIBATAM-Politeknik Negeri Batam (Polibatam) Campus held the 2023 Independent Entrepreneurial/Wirausaha Merdeka (WMK) Bootcamp batch II on Monday (20/11/2023) at the Polibatam Auditorium. This event was attended by Deputy Director 3 for Student Affairs, Cooperation and Alumni of Batam State Polytechnic, Dr. Muhammad Zaenuddin, and the Head of P3M Batam State Polytechnic, Daniel Soetopo, Ph.D.

Chair of the Batam State Polytechnic WMK, Alena Uperiati, S.T., M.Cs, said that this Bootcamp activity was a very important step in developing the potential and abilities of the participants. This Bootcamp provides in-depth insight, training, and collaboration opportunities to help students grow and develop in entrepreneurship. Bootcamps are not just about gaining new knowledge but also about networking, developing team skills and discovering hidden potential.

This year’s Bootcamp theme is Building Successful Campus Start-Ups Since College. The Bootcamp material was delivered by entrepreneur coach Dr. Vishnu Dewobroto. In this activity, students are given training material regarding entrepreneurship, learn how to present products and analyze possible business challenges they will encounter. The material delivery is interspersed with games and group discussions that hone ideas, creativity and teamwork.

This Bootcamp event is part of a series of WMK Polibatam events that opened last September. The number of students taking part in the WMK Polibatam program this year is 450 students, consisting of students from Politeknik Negeri Batam and 8 other partner universities, including Universitas Batam, Batam Tourism Polytechnic, Bentara Persada Batam College of Economics, Putra Sang Fajar Blitar State Community Academy, Politeknik Negeri Ketapang, Politeknik Negeri Pontianak, Politeknik Pertanian Negeri Kepulauan Pangkajene and Universitas Tanjungpura. Students were divided into 74 teams and guided by 44 field assistant lecturers/Dosen Pendamping Lapangan (DPL).

Students participating in WMK receive recognition equivalent to 20 credits from the series of activities. WMK students also have the opportunity to study outside campus to develop knowledge in entrepreneurship. The WMK program is expected to provide practical experience for students in entrepreneurial activities by providing entrepreneurial mindset and competence, developing and creating business concepts, and entrepreneurial practice and development. Students are expected to be competent in analyzing businesses and creating business opportunities, increasing employability capabilities and higher education graduates’ quality and capacity.
