Polibatam Holds 2026 BEM Student President and Vice President Debate to Promote Campus Democracy

BATAM — Politeknik Negeri Batam (Polibatam) held the Student President and Vice President Debate (Capresma–Cawapresma) of BEM Polibatam 2026 as part of the Student General Election (Pemilihan Raya Mahasiswa). The event took place on Thursday, 22 January 2026, at the Main Building Lobby of Polibatam, and was attended by students from various departments as a manifestation of active participation in campus democracy.

The debate served as an open dialogue forum for the two pairs of candidates to present their visions, missions, and proposed programs to the Polibatam student body. Each pair articulated leadership ideas rooted in student needs, the strengthening of student organizations, and the strategic role of the Student Executive Board (BEM) as a channel for student aspirations and a partner of the institution.

The candidate pair Anton Kurniawan – Fakhri Faturrahman Zain promoted a vision of strengthening a collaborative, inclusive, and impactful student ecosystem. Their flagship programs included the establishment of the Progressive Campus Assembly (Muskampro) as a cross-organizational student forum, the enhancement of student advocacy and counseling services to support mental health, and the development of sustainable organizational cadre regeneration. In addition, the pair emphasized the importance of impact-based social projects as a tangible form of student contribution to society.

Meanwhile, the candidate pair Muhammad Aidil Azhar (Student President Candidate) and Sulthonah Luthfi Annur Bay (Student Vice President Candidate) presented programs focused on improving student welfare, strengthening BEM’s role as a facilitator of academic and non-academic activities, and enhancing organizational transparency and communication. Their proposed initiatives included optimizing the student aspiration system, fostering students’ interests and talents through collaboration with student associations and activity units, and creating a more active, productive, and participatory campus environment.

Both candidate pairs agreed that BEM plays a crucial role as a driver of student solidarity and a strategic partner of the institution in maintaining a democratic and conducive campus climate. Various contemporary student issues were openly discussed, ranging from student welfare and self-capacity development to student involvement in social activities and community service.

The debate atmosphere was dynamic and interactive. Attending students actively listened to the program presentations, posed critical questions, and provided feedback on the ideas delivered by the candidates. The event functioned not only as a campaign platform but also as a political learning arena that encouraged students to think critically, objectively, and responsibly in making their choices.

Through the BEM Polibatam Capresma–Cawapresma Debate 2026, Polibatam reaffirmed its commitment to supporting a healthy, transparent student democratic process oriented toward nurturing young leaders with integrity, vision, and the ability to channel student aspirations toward constructive change.
