Polibatam Business Management Lecturers Provide Industrial Internship Preparation for SMK Negeri 9 Batam Students

BATAM – As part of its commitment to implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, particularly in the field of Community Service, lecturers and educational staff from the Business Management Department of Politeknik Negeri Batam (Polibatam) provided an Industrial Internship Preparation Program for students of SMK Negeri 9 Batam in July 2026.

Held at SMK Negeri 9 Batam, the program was attended by approximately 115 students from various study programs, including Accounting, Visual Communication Design, Animation, Electrical Engineering, and Welding Engineering. The program aimed to improve students’ readiness before entering the business and industrial sectors by strengthening their competencies, professional character, and understanding of safe workplace practices aligned with industry needs.

The series of activities began with a Professional Ethics session on 20 July 2026. During the session, students gained insights into developing professional character, applying proper communication ethics, maintaining an appropriate workplace appearance, understanding industrial work culture, protecting confidential information, and carrying out their responsibilities with integrity.

On the same day, participants also attended a Computer Practicum focusing on the use of Microsoft Excel and spreadsheet applications, as well as techniques for managing and preparing documents in a neat and systematic manner. These skills are essential administrative competencies required in various industrial and office environments.

The program continued on 22 July 2026 with Occupational Safety and Health training. The session was designed to strengthen students’ understanding of safety culture, compliance with work procedures, hazard identification, and the safe and responsible use of equipment.

During the practical session, participants were introduced to the safe operation of cutting machines and printing equipment, electrical hazard prevention, and the use of portable fire extinguishers as part of workplace risk mitigation efforts.

Through this program, the Business Management Department of Polibatam hopes that the students will be better prepared to undertake their industrial internships, particularly in terms of technical skills, administrative competencies, professional ethics, and occupational safety awareness. The activity also reflects the strong collaboration between vocational higher education institutions and vocational schools in preparing competent, professional, and industry-ready human resources.
