Follow-up Hearing of the Polibatam Halal Study Center with the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religion of Riau Islands and Bank Indonesia

NEWS-The Halal Study Center, meaning Pusat Kajian Halal (PKH) Politeknik Negeri Batam held a follow-up hearing of PKH with the Halal Task Force from the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religion of the Riau Islands Province on Friday, June 3, 2022, located in room 301 of the main Polibatam building. This event is a follow-up to the decision of the Polibatam Campus set by the Head of the Halal Product Assurance Administration No. 110 of 2022 as one of the assistance institutions for the Halal Product Process, meaning Proses Produk Halal (PPH).

The event was attended by Deputy Director 3 Polibatam (Dr. Muhammad Zaenuddin), Halal Task Force (Mr. Abu) from the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religion of Riau Islands, Bank Indonesia Representative (Mr. Mualam Noor) the Head of KEKDA Implementation Team, Mr. Nuryanto (Consultant for Sharia Economic Development), and members of Polibatam PKH. Polibatam has 3 roles in the halal assurance system program, i.e. as the Polibatam Halal Study Center, the Halal Product Assistance Institute called as Lembaga Pendamping Produk Halal (LPPH), and the Halal Inspection Agency or Lembaga Pemeriksa Halal (LPH).

In his speech, Dr. Muhammad Zaenuddin said that, “Hopefully, in the future, Polibatam will contribute in establishing a halal center or halal study center in Batam city. LPPH in Polibatam has been registered and there is already a team and a Director’s Decree”. “The plan in the near future is to map Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)or Usaha Mikro, Kecil, dan Menengah (UMKM) in Batam city for the need for halal certification and to collaborate with Bank Indonesia in halal training and certification programs for UMKM,” said Zaen.

It is hoped that there will be mentoring training for internal and external assistants where there has been initiation with Bank Indonesia. Hopefully it can be implemented and there will be more who follow and also make efforts for the test lab. BP Batam can cooperate because the location of the test lab is also in Polibatam. Meanwhile, the quarantine area will also cooperate with the quarantine center.

“Greetings from the Head of the Regional Office of the Riau Islands Ministry of Religion, after hearing the report, He became excited. In the future program, PJPH will work together with PKH to supervise, guide, and provide assistance on halal products to UMKM in Batam,” said Abu as the Head of the Halal Task Force for the Riau Islands Ministry of Religion. “I welcome Polibatam’s good program, the Ministry of Religion of the Riau Islands will encourage to immediately disseminate the program to religious, community, youth, and mosque administrators,” added Abu.

“There is an opportunity to support the acceleration of this halal certification program, and BI helps in developing MSMEs to go up a class,” explained Mualam.

In the near future, Polibatam plans to map MSMEs, especially in Batam City for the need for halal certification and plans a training for Polibatam’s internal PPH companion for lecturers and staff. External PPH companion training will collaborate with other institutions, i.e. Bank Indonesia in the success of the halal certification program in Batam City and Riau Islands in general.
