Building an Inclusive Future: Polibatam’s Concrete Steps in the GIZ Green Jobs Program

BATAM – Politeknik Negeri Batam (Polibatam) has once again reinforced its position as a pioneer in human resource development in the Riau Islands. On Tuesday, February 10, 2026, a crucial coordination meeting was held in Room 301 of the Main Building of Polibatam in preparation for the working visit and implementation of the GESIT (Green Jobs for Social Inclusion & Sustainable Transformation) program initiated by GIZ. This meeting was not merely ceremonial, but a concrete step by Polibatam in addressing global challenges related to climate change and social equality. Through the GESIT program, Polibatam has officially declared its readiness to serve as a training provider as well as the main module developer for the Green GESI (Gender Equality and Social Inclusion) program in the Riau Islands Province.

As an archipelagic province, the Riau Islands possess extraordinary potential but also face high vulnerability to economic changes. The GESIT program will focus on strengthening key sectors such as maritime affairs, fisheries, and tourism. The objective is clear: to encourage the transition of employment from the informal to the formal sector through an inclusive Green Jobs approach. Polibatam will lead the establishment of a “Small Team” responsible for developing modules, toolkits, and training instruments. Beyond theory, this program will train 30 community facilitators/activators to ensure that its impact reaches the grassroots level.
