Strengthening Aviation Vocational Skills, High School Students Attend Aircraft Maintenance and Repair Training

BATAM — Sixty students from SMK Penerbangan Nasional Batam and SMK Muhammadiyah Tembesi took part in an introductory training program on aircraft maintenance and repair, held from 19 to 21 October 2026. The training took place at the hangar of Batam State Polytechnic (Polibatam) and introduced students to basic aircraft maintenance and repair processes through classroom instruction and hands-on practice.

The program began with participant registration and an official opening by the Chair of In-Saintek. Before the learning sessions, students attended a safety briefing on workplace safety. Understanding safety procedures was an important first step before using equipment and taking part in practical activities in the hangar.

Training modules were tailored to the students’ grade levels and schools. Grade X students from SMK Penerbangan Nasional Batam learned about locking wire and measurement techniques. Grade XI and XII students from the same school studied sheet metal work and measurement. Students from SMK Muhammadiyah Tembesi focused on aircraft battery systems through related instruction and practical exercises.

On the second and third days, participants began with morning attendance and a safety briefing before continuing with intensive practice based on their respective modules. The sessions ran from morning to afternoon, allowing students to become familiar with work procedures and develop technical skills related to aircraft maintenance.

The final day featured advanced practice, a quiz, and group presentations on the learning outcomes. These activities helped assess participants’ understanding of the material covered during the training. The program concluded with a comprehensive evaluation, an official closing, and a group photo with participants and their accompanying teachers.

By combining instruction with practical experience, the training introduced vocational students to several fundamental aspects of aircraft maintenance and repair. The experience is expected to broaden their knowledge and strengthen their skills as they explore career opportunities in the aviation sector.
