A Concrete Act of Health Care: Polibatam Students Distribute Masks amid Haze

BATAM — In response to the haze affecting Batam, students from Politeknik Negeri Batam (Polibatam) joined RSIA Royal Medika in a community mask distribution initiative. The activity took place at Simpang Franky, Batam Kota, on Monday, October 19, 2026.

During the action, Polibatam students and the hospital team distributed 250 boxes of masks free of charge to road users and nearby residents. The initiative aimed to show concern for public health and encourage people to take precautions while going about their activities in conditions of poor air quality.

Polibatam student representatives said their participation reflected the university’s commitment to the Three Pillars of Higher Education, particularly community service. Through the activity, students hoped to contribute directly to the community and raise awareness of the potential respiratory health effects of haze exposure.

The initiative also formed part of a health promotion and prevention effort through public outreach and mask distribution. The collaboration between Polibatam students and RSIA Royal Medika demonstrated how joint community action can support public health.

Dr. Ratna L. of RSIA Royal Medika praised the enthusiasm and commitment shown by the Polibatam students. Their involvement supported efforts to encourage the public to pay greater attention to health during the haze.

Through this social initiative, Polibatam continues to encourage students to develop social awareness and take an active role in responding to issues in their communities. The activity reflects Polibatam’s commitment to developing graduates who are not only academically capable but also concerned about the health and well-being of the wider community.

Greetings from Polibatam.
