Polibatam Opens Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Pathway, Expanding Access to Education for Professionals and the Community

BATAM – Politeknik Negeri Batam (Polibatam) continues to expand access to higher education through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) program. This program provides opportunities for individuals with prior learning and work experience to continue their studies in a more efficient and well-directed manner.

RPL Type A is a process of recognizing learning outcomes that a person has partially acquired, whether through formal, non-formal, informal education, or work experience. Through this scheme, participants can continue their education at Polibatam without having to complete all credit units required in their intended study program.

The implementation of RPL at Polibatam is carried out by each study program that offers this scheme, through transcript evaluation and assessment of the fulfillment of learning outcomes. The entire RPL process is managed professionally by the RPL organization established at Polibatam.

There are two schemes under RPL Type A. The first is RPL Type A – Transfer, which recognizes learning outcomes obtained from previous formal education at other higher education institutions. This scheme allows participants to continue their studies with credit recognition from their previous study program. The second is RPL Type A – Acquisition, which recognizes learning outcomes gained through non-formal education, informal learning, and/or work experience after completing secondary education or its equivalent. This scheme provides opportunities for professionals to convert their work experience into academic recognition.

This program offers a practical solution for individuals who wish to improve their educational qualifications without having to repeat learning they have already mastered. Therefore, RPL not only helps shorten the study period but also provides recognition of the competencies that participants already possess.
