Polibatam and SETI Strengthen Synergy to Accelerate Green Building Implementation in Batam

BATAM – Politeknik Negeri Batam (Polibatam) held a strategic meeting with Sustainable Energy Transition Initiatives (SETI) on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, to explore opportunities for the implementation and certification of Green Buildings (Bangunan Gedung Hijau/BGH) within the campus environment. The discussion emphasized accelerating the adoption of green building standards in Batam, which remain relatively limited, while also initiating structured capacity-building programs for energy professionals. During the session, SETI presented an energy efficiency roadmap aimed at reducing electricity consumption by up to one percent annually through improved energy management systems and gradual replacement of inefficient electrical equipment.

The collaboration is considered timely and strategic, given that SETI’s program support is scheduled to conclude by the end of next year. As a result, key initiatives—particularly training and certification programs—will be intensified throughout this year. SETI highlighted the importance of building a strong foundation of certified professionals to support sustainable energy practices, ensuring long-term impact beyond the program’s duration.

Through this partnership, SETI offers comprehensive support in the form of training and certification programs for green building experts, energy managers, and energy auditors under the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP) standards. Polibatam has already participated in the initial phase of energy manager training and plans to propose selected campus buildings for a SETI-sponsored green building feasibility study. Preliminary assessments indicate that Polibatam’s energy consumption index currently stands at 218 kWh/m²/year, underscoring the need for a comprehensive energy audit to reduce consumption levels prior to pursuing national-level green building certification. This initiative aligns with Polibatam’s commitment to enhancing its UI GreenMetric ranking through smart systems and environmentally responsible building management.

Beyond infrastructure development, this collaboration also opens opportunities for academic enrichment, particularly for students of the Power Plant Engineering Study Program (Rekayasa Pembangkit Energi). Students will gain access to short courses, open classes, and knowledge-sharing sessions on energy efficiency starting in June. As a follow-up, Polibatam is preparing technical building data and supporting documents to finalize the selection of priority buildings for the energy audit program. Through this synergy, Polibatam aims to position itself as a pioneer green campus in Batam, contributing actively to sustainable development and compliance with national energy efficiency standards.
