ITERATI Socialization at FDPNI Event Promotes Global Recognition for Indonesian Engineering Technicians
BATAM – Politeknik Negeri Batam (Polibatam) hosted the ITERATI Socialization event on Thursday (12/2/2026) at the Polibatam Auditorium, held in conjunction with the Forum of Directors and Chairs of Dharma Wanita of State Polytechnics and State Community Academies throughout Indonesia (FDPNI). The event marked a strategic step toward strengthening international professional recognition for Indonesian engineering technicians.
The establishment of the professional organization ITERATI is driven by the urgent need to achieve international equivalency and recognition for Indonesian Engineering Technicians and Engineering Technology Technicians, enabling them to attain global workforce mobility. At the international level, this recognition framework falls under International Engineering Alliance (IEA), a global alliance dedicated to quality assurance in engineering education and professional competence.
The IEA is widely recognized as a leading global organization that sets international benchmark standards for engineering education and supports engineers, engineering technologists, and technicians in pursuing cross-border professional practice. Through seven autonomous international agreements—comprising Education Accords and Competence Agreements—the IEA ensures that engineering professionals meet globally recognized qualifications.
The presentation highlighted three international education accords under the IEA framework: Washington Accord for professional engineering degree programs, Sydney Accord for engineering technology programs, and Dublin Accord for engineering technician programs. In addition, four international competence agreements—IPEA, APECEA, IETA, and AIET—serve as frameworks for cross-border professional recognition.
Through international registration under these schemes, Indonesian professionals have the opportunity to obtain globally recognized competency status. This recognition opens access to international workforce mobility, broadens career opportunities, and strengthens participation in global engineering projects.
The socialization also underscored the urgency of establishing a dedicated national professional institution specifically representing Engineering Technicians and Engineering Technology Technicians in Indonesia. Such an institution is expected to fulfill IEA membership requirements, particularly under the IETA and AIET agreements, while serving as Indonesia’s official representative body.
ITERATI is designed to encompass polytechnic graduates from Diploma 1 (D1) to Diploma 4 (D4), thereby strengthening the position of Indonesian vocational graduates within the global professional ecosystem. From a regulatory perspective, the formation of this organization refers to Law No. 16 of 2011 on Social Organizations, Law No. 12 of 2012 on Higher Education, Presidential Regulation No. 8 of 2012 on the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (KKNI), and Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Regulation No. 30 of 2021.

Through this initiative, Polibatam reaffirms its commitment to supporting the development of an internationally standardized vocational professional ecosystem. It is hoped that ITERATI will become a significant milestone in enhancing the global competitiveness of Indonesian polytechnic graduates and expanding the contribution of vocational human resources on the world stage.
Warm regards from Polibatam!
