Expanding Access to Education, Batam City Government Funds 28 Students from Hinterland Islands at Polibatam
BATAM — The Batam City Government (Pemko Batam) officially sent off 28 new students from the city’s hinterland islands to pursue higher education at Politeknik Negeri Batam (Polibatam) on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. The scholarship program, established through a collaboration between Pemko Batam and Polibatam for the 2026/2027 Academic Year, represents a concrete step toward expanding equitable access to vocational higher education for communities living on Batam’s surrounding islands.
The 28 scholarship recipients are selected students from Batam’s hinterland areas who successfully completed a series of selection processes. Through this program, they are given the opportunity to pursue various four-year Diploma (D4) or Applied Bachelor’s degree programs at Polibatam that are aligned with the current needs of business and industry.
Beyond providing broader access to higher education, the scholarship program also serves as an initiative to develop competent, skilled, and competitive local human resources. Vocational education is expected to equip students with relevant knowledge, practical skills, and hands-on learning experiences that meet the evolving demands of industry.

The collaboration between Pemko Batam and Polibatam reflects a strong synergy between the local government and higher education institutions in improving the quality of human resources, particularly among young people from hinterland communities. The program is also expected to create greater opportunities for scholarship recipients to improve their quality of life and contribute to regional development after completing their studies.
Through this collaboration, Polibatam continues to strengthen its role in providing inclusive, high-quality vocational education that remains relevant to the needs of society and industry. This partnership is expected to continue growing and deliver broader and more sustainable benefits for the people of Batam.
Greetings from Polibatam!
