AwarenessPolibatam Officially Launches Biofloc Monitoring and Control System as a Living Lab for Student Innovation Awareness

BATAM – Politeknik Negeri Batam, through the Department of Electrical Engineering, officially launched its Featured Electrical Engineering Product, the Biofloc Monitoring and Control System, on April 20, 2026. This activity marks one of Polibatam’s efforts to strengthen applied technology innovation in the field of aquaculture based on the Internet of Things (IoT).

The program is a further development of the BERDIKARI Program, which previously focused on the use of digital technology for monitoring biofloc ponds. Through this development, the system is designed not only as a monitoring tool, but also as a learning, research, and technology testing platform for students.

The launching ceremony was marked by the symbolic release of tilapia fingerlings into the biofloc pond by Polibatam Vice Director II, Arniati. The event was also attended by industry partner PT Tunas Bioflok Indojaya, represented by its Director, Sujianto. The presence of the industry partner reflects strong support for collaboration between campus and industry in developing practical technological solutions that are relevant to community needs.

The Biofloc Monitoring and Control System is designed to monitor pond conditions in real time, including water quality, temperature, pH levels, and automatic control of supporting systems for fish farming. With this technology, fish cultivation is expected to become more efficient, modern, and sustainable.

In addition to being a featured product of the Department of Electrical Engineering, the biofloc pond will also function as a living lab for students. Through this facility, students can directly test devices, sensors, control systems, and IoT-based technologies in a real environment. This is in line with Polibatam’s Project Based Learning (PBL) approach in vocational education.

Through this innovation, Polibatam continues to strengthen its role as a vocational higher education institution that promotes practice-based learning, applied research, and real collaboration with industry. The development of the Biofloc Monitoring and Control System is also expected to support food security, smart aquaculture, and student innovations that bring positive impact to society.
