Polibatam and Women’s Empowerment Foundation Explore Collaboration on Violence Prevention and Peer Counselor Training

BATAM – Politeknik Negeri Batam (Polibatam) welcomed a delegation from the Yayasan Perempuan Berdaya Peduli Bangsa (Women’s Empowerment Foundation) on Friday, October 30, 2026, at Meeting Room 301, on the third floor of Polibatam’s Main Building. The meeting focused on exploring potential collaboration to strengthen violence prevention and response efforts in educational institutions through educational programs, mentoring, and peer counselor capacity building.

The meeting was attended by Shinta Wahyu Hati, S.Sos., M.AB., Head of Polibatam’s Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in Higher Education (Satgas PPKPT), along with other task force members. Their participation reflected Polibatam’s commitment to strengthening coordination and fostering partnerships to create a safe, inclusive, and violence-free educational environment.

One of the main topics discussed was the proposed Peer Counselor Training Program for senior high school and vocational school students across Batam. The program aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to provide initial peer support while promoting awareness of violence prevention within school communities.

The training is scheduled tentatively for late November or early December 2026, involving 10 senior high schools and vocational schools across Batam. Each school is expected to send three students and one accompanying teacher, bringing the projected number of participants to 40. The full-day training will feature two instructional sessions and one practical role-playing session to enhance participants’ understanding and interpersonal skills.

During the meeting, both parties also discussed the potential involvement of Polibatam’s Satgas PPKPT as participants and facilitators. Other proposed contributions included providing resource persons, mentors, and facilities to support the training. The involvement of the Student Executive Board (BEM) and other student organizations was also considered, subject to technical requirements and available resources.

Beyond the training program, the discussion covered plans to establish a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as a framework for a five-year partnership, along with a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to support the implementation of strategic programs over a three-year period.

The proposed scope of collaboration includes violence prevention and response, awareness campaigns and educational activities for senior high school and vocational school students, support for Polibatam’s Satgas PPKPT, legal assistance, and the establishment of open discussion forums for education, consultation, mentoring, and coordination.

As a follow-up, Polibatam will conduct internal coordination to assess the forms of support it can provide based on its institutional capacity and available resources. Both parties also plan to hold further technical meetings to clarify their respective roles, implementation mechanisms, and the preparation of formal cooperation documents.

Through this proposed collaboration, Polibatam seeks to expand its contribution to creating safer and more inclusive educational environments while strengthening partnerships among higher education institutions, community organizations, and schools in preventing and addressing violence.
