Polibatam Welcomes Benchmarking Visit from UMM Faculty of Vocational Studies to Discuss PBL and OBE

BATAM — Politeknik Negeri Batam (Polibatam) welcomed a benchmarking visit from the Faculty of Vocational Studies, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. Held in Room 301 on the third floor of Polibatam, the visit served as a forum for sharing best practices in strengthening vocational education, particularly in the implementation of Project-Based Learning (PBL) and Outcome-Based Education (OBE).

The delegation was welcomed by Vice Director I of Politeknik Negeri Batam, Ahmad Riyad Firdaus, together with representatives from KPS Elektro Manufacture. The UMM delegation consisted of nine participants from the Faculty of Vocational Studies, including faculty leaders, heads of study programs, laboratory heads, and internal quality assurance representatives.

During the meeting, both institutions discussed the implementation of project-based learning and outcome-based approaches in vocational education. The discussion also covered vocational curriculum development, the implementation of Teaching Factory (TeFa), the integration of internship programs into the learning process, and strategies for building sustainable partnerships with business and industry.

The benchmarking visit also provided an opportunity for both institutions to exchange experiences in developing applied learning systems that are responsive to workforce and industry needs. PBL and OBE were highlighted as important approaches in strengthening students’ competencies and ensuring that learning outcomes remain relevant to industry expectations.

Through this visit, Polibatam and the UMM Faculty of Vocational Studies are expected to gain new insights and references for improving the quality of vocational education while opening wider opportunities for collaboration in learning development, curriculum enhancement, and industry partnerships.

The activity also reflects a shared commitment to strengthening networks among vocational higher education institutions and supporting learning that is high-quality, practical, and focused on graduate competencies.
