BATAM STATE POLYTECHNIC ENHANCES THE COMPETENCE OF VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL LOGISTICS TEACHERS THROUGH SMART WAREHOUSE TRAINING
BATAM — The rapid development of digital technology and automation continues to transform the way warehousing and inventory are managed. Responding to these changes, Batam State Polytechnic (Polibatam), through its Community Service team from the Logistics, International Trade, and Goods Distribution Study Program, organized the Warehouse and Inventory Management Education Training (Smart Warehouse) on September 24–25, 2026.
Held at Polibatam, the training was attended by 25 teachers from seven vocational high schools (SMKs) in the Riau Islands Province. The program was designed to strengthen teachers’ competencies in understanding modern warehouse management systems while supporting vocational learning that is increasingly aligned with technological developments and the needs of the logistics industry.
Over the two-day program, participants received training on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), inventory management, human resource management, and quality management in warehouse operations. These materials were provided to strengthen participants’ understanding of both operational and managerial aspects that are essential in modern warehousing systems.
In addition to theoretical sessions, participants took part in a Warehouse Management System (WMS) simulation and a Smart Warehouse Tour. Through these activities, participants gained direct insight into how technology is applied in warehouse operations, from goods receiving to distribution processes.
During the simulation, participants learned about inbound and outbound processes, the movement of goods within a warehouse, and the use of digital systems to support recording, control, and operational efficiency. The hands-on experience provided participants with a broader understanding of the ongoing transformation of the warehousing industry, which is increasingly integrated with digital technology and automation.
As part of the training evaluation, the organizing team also conducted pre-tests and post-tests to assess participants’ understanding before and after completing the program.
The Head of the Organizing Committee, Yolanda Efionita, stated that the training was part of the implementation of the Three Pillars of Higher Education (Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi), particularly in the area of community service. The program also reflects Polibatam’s contribution to strengthening the connection between vocational education and the actual needs of industry.
“The purpose of this activity is to improve the competence of vocational high school logistics teachers so that they can help prepare SMK graduates who are ready to enter the workforce, considering that today’s warehousing industry is becoming increasingly digital and automated,” said Yolanda.
Through this training, the teachers are expected not only to gain a stronger understanding of modern warehouse management concepts and practices, but also to be able to incorporate this knowledge into classroom learning. In this way, students can gain insights and skills that are increasingly relevant to developments in the world of work.
The activity also reflects Polibatam’s commitment to supporting the improvement of vocational education quality in the Riau Islands. Through collaboration between higher education institutions, schools, and industry, the strengthening of human resource competencies in the logistics sector is expected to continue and provide a meaningful impact on graduates’ readiness to enter the workforce.
