Polibatam Welcomes Bank Indonesia Institute, Discusses Digital Talent Development and Industry Needs

BATAM – Politeknik Negeri Batam (Polibatam) welcomed a visit from the Bank Indonesia Institute for a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and field visit on Monday, August 10, 2026. The activity was part of a research study entitled “Digital Talent Transformation as an Engine of Growth: Mapping Domestic and International Demand for Digital Human Resources to Enhance Productivity.”

The research aims to provide a more comprehensive understanding of digital talent development, the role of educational institutions in supporting digital transformation, as well as the opportunities and challenges in developing digital human resources that meet the evolving needs of industry at both national and international levels.

Director of Politeknik Negeri Batam, Ir. Bambang Hendrawan, S.T., M.S.M., IPMP, CISCP, welcomed the FGD and field visit and emphasized the importance of collaboration among higher education institutions, government institutions, and industry in ensuring that students’ competencies remain relevant to technological developments and changing workforce demands.

“We hope this activity will contribute to a more comprehensive mapping of digital talent needs, enabling higher education institutions to better prepare students with competencies that are relevant to technological developments and industry requirements. For Polibatam, collaboration such as this is also important in strengthening the connection between vocational education, the world of work, and Indonesia’s digital transformation agenda,” said Bambang.

During the discussion, Polibatam shared its experience in implementing internship programs and preparing students to enter the workforce. From the perspective of the Informatics field, one of the challenges is the availability of internship partners whose needs are aligned with students’ competencies, while Batam’s industrial landscape is still largely dominated by the manufacturing sector.

To address this challenge, several alternatives have been explored, including remote internship schemes and student placements at companies outside Batam. Internship opportunities that offer a potential pathway to recruitment are also considered particularly attractive to students, as they provide greater opportunities for career continuity after completing the program.

Through the FGD and field visit, Polibatam hopes its collaboration with the Bank Indonesia Institute will contribute to strengthening Indonesia’s digital talent development ecosystem. The activity is also expected to open further opportunities for collaboration in competency development, internship programs, research, and stronger linkages between vocational higher education and industry.
