Polibatam Explores Strategic Collaboration with Fuyao University of Science and Technology, China

BATAM — Politeknik Negeri Batam (Polibatam) welcomed a delegation from Fuyao University of Science and Technology, China, represented by Qiong Lin (Dean) and Yifan Zhang (Vice Dean for International Cooperation), to explore potential strategic collaboration in the fields of education, research, and industrial ecosystem development. From Polibatam, the meeting was attended by Rifi, Irkham, Adi Purba, and Hidayatussa’adah.

During the discussion, both parties identified highly promising opportunities for collaboration. Fuyao University of Science and Technology is a newly established private university supported by strong funding from industrial corporations in China. Although currently in its first year of operation with approximately 50 students, the university aims to maintain a total student population of fewer than 10,000, with a maximum lecturer-to-student ratio of 1:5. Its campus and facilities are developed using advanced and modern technologies.

Fuyao University positions itself as a research-oriented university by recruiting leading Chinese lecturers and researchers who have previously worked in various countries to return and teach at the institution. This approach aligns closely with Polibatam’s commitment to strengthening vocational education based on applied research and industry needs.

One of the key collaboration opportunities discussed was the development of a Halal Trade Ecosystem. While Fuyao University possesses advanced testing equipment, it requires guidance in establishing testing systems that comply with halal standards. The proposed collaboration would not be limited to testing activities but would encompass the entire halal value chain—from production processes, packaging, and distribution to delivery of products to consumers. In this context, Fuyao University is also developing an Artificial Intelligence (AI+) approach to support smart packaging and smart delivery, while opening opportunities for collaboration with Polibatam in strengthening Islamic Finance.

The discussion also covered potential educational collaboration through a U–U–B (University–University–Business) scheme, such as joint degree programs, with shared study periods at Polibatam and Fuyao University, as well as direct placement of graduates in Chinese industries operating in Indonesia.

Other collaboration plans include the establishment of a Fuyao University office or center at Polibatam, serving as a hub for research and training collaboration for both non-degree programs and selected academic schemes. Under this initiative, Fuyao University also expressed interest in sending high school graduates from China to undertake initial studies at Polibatam before continuing their education at Fuyao University and participating in internships at Chinese companies.

Through this meeting, Polibatam reaffirmed its commitment to expanding international networks, promoting impactful research and educational collaboration, and strengthening its role as a vocational higher education institution that is adaptive to global demands.
