Polibatam Hosts Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Seminar under the SETI Project
BATAM — Politeknik Negeri Batam (Polibatam) hosted the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in Buildings Seminar, part of the Sustainable Energy Transition in Indonesia (SETI) Project, on Friday, 5 December 2025, at the Technopreneur Building Theater, Polibatam. The seminar was conducted through a multi-stakeholder collaboration involving the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), the Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE), GIZ, IESR, WRI, and Yayasan CERAH as the organizing consortium.
In the background presented during the seminar, the building sector was identified as one of the largest contributors to national energy-related emissions and is projected to account for up to 40% of total energy consumption by 2030. With rapid urbanization and economic growth, cities such as Batam require more effective energy transition strategies, particularly through the implementation of energy efficiency measures and the utilization of renewable energy in buildings.
The seminar was officially opened with remarks by Polibatam Director Bambang Hendrawan, who emphasized Polibatam’s commitment to supporting the acceleration of the energy transition and strengthening stakeholder capacity in the Batam region. The program continued with presentations from the SETI Consortium and the Directorate of Various New and Renewable Energy of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, followed by a keynote address from the Batam City Government highlighting Batam’s commitment to becoming a sustainable energy hub in Indonesia.

The technical sessions covered topics including energy conservation regulations, renewable energy applications in buildings, green building technologies, zero-energy buildings, and the potential of solar energy in urban areas. In addition, SETI introduced plans for certified training programs and presented baseline data on building energy consumption in Batam City to support future strategic improvements.
The seminar concluded with a reaffirmation of the vital role of higher education institutions in advancing the energy transition, particularly through capacity building for building managers and local stakeholders. Through this seminar, Polibatam strengthened its commitment to actively contributing toward the realization of a more energy-efficient and sustainable city.
Warm regards,
Polibatam!
