Polibatam Introduces RFID-Based Student Activity Monitoring System at SMAIT Ulil Albab Batam
BATAM – Politeknik Negeri Batam (Polibatam), through its Community Service (PKM) team from the Department of Informatics Engineering, implemented and officially handed over an RFID-Based Daily Student Activity Monitoring System to SMAIT Ulil Albab Batam on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. This initiative reflects Polibatam’s commitment to supporting digital transformation in education by developing technological solutions tailored to schools’ operational needs.
The monitoring system was designed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of student activity supervision, particularly in schools adopting full-day and boarding school models. Utilizing Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, the system enables students’ daily activities to be recorded through contactless smart card scanning, with data automatically integrated into a web-based dashboard. By replacing manual recordkeeping, the system allows school administrators to manage and monitor student activity records more efficiently, systematically, and accurately.
In addition to reducing the administrative workload of teachers on duty, the system features a WhatsApp Gateway that automatically sends real-time notifications about students’ activities to their parents. This feature helps schools improve student discipline monitoring while strengthening communication between schools and families, ensuring parents remain informed about their children’s activities during school hours.

The implementation involved RFID device installation, system operation training for school staff, and student orientation sessions to introduce the card-scanning procedures and their daily applications. The activities concluded with the signing of an official Handover Report (Berita Acara Serah Terima or BAST), marking the formal transfer of the system to SMAIT Ulil Albab Batam for use in supporting its daily operations.
Developed through collaboration between lecturers and students, this community service initiative also demonstrates the application of Project-Based Learning (PBL), a key approach to education at Polibatam. The innovation is expected to provide long-term benefits for SMAIT Ulil Albab Batam while reinforcing Polibatam’s role as a vocational higher education institution committed to delivering practical, technology-driven solutions that address community needs.
Greetings from Polibatam!
