Polibatam Explores Academic Collaboration with Korea University at Korea–Indonesia Networking Days

BATAM — Politeknik Negeri Batam (Polibatam), together with representatives from several Indonesian polytechnics, took part in Korea–Indonesia Networking Days (KIND), an initiative by Korean Center Jakarta, on Monday, October 19, 2026. The Polibatam delegation comprised Ahmad Riyad Firdaus, Vice Director I for Academic Affairs; Ahmad Hamim Thohari, Head of the Informatics Department; and Irkham Nugroho Putro from the Office of International Affairs (OIA).

On the first day of the event, the Polibatam delegation visited Korea University (KU) for discussions and to explore opportunities for academic collaboration. The meeting took place in the KU Rector’s Office Building. Ahmad Riyad Firdaus presented Polibatam’s profile, including its implementation of Project-Based Learning (PBL) and potential areas for collaboration between the institutions.

The meeting was also attended by Professor Seong-Taek Yun, Executive Vice President for Research, and Professor Song Sang Kee, Vice President of International Affairs at Korea University. During the discussion, KU shared several potential opportunities for collaboration, including summer and winter mobility programs and opportunities to pursue master’s and doctoral degrees.

“This meeting is an important opportunity for Polibatam to expand its international network and explore more concrete collaboration. KU’s experience in connecting learning with industry aligns closely with the implementation of PBL at Polibatam. This creates opportunities to develop joint projects and research involving lecturers and students from both institutions,” said Ahmad Riyad Firdaus.

In addition to the academic agenda, the Polibatam delegation joined a session introducing Hangeul, the Korean writing system, with the Korean Language Center (KLC). KLC’s Korean language program is open to the public and can be held online or in person. For international students at Korea University, learning Korean is also part of their academic experience on campus.

Polibatam’s participation in KIND provided an opportunity to expand its international network and explore collaboration with Korea University in learning, student mobility, and joint research.

Greetings from Polibatam.
