BATAM — Childhood dreams can take our imagination anywhere—even into outer space. Life, however, often has surprises in store. This is the theme of a Politeknik Negeri Batam (Polibatam) video titled “What Did You Dream of Becoming Before Working at Polibatam?”, which introduces the personal side of campus support staff through casual conversations and entertaining visuals.

In the video, staff members share their varied aspirations. Some dreamed of becoming palm oil entrepreneurs, shop owners, nurses, skincare business owners, pilots, or astronauts. Others recall wanting to become doctors and flight attendants before eventually joining Polibatam.

Creative visuals bring their answers to life, portraying staff members in their dream professions. Familiar desk settings transform into imagined businesses and professional environments. One unexpected answer—wanting to become a fairy—adds a playful moment that is sure to bring a smile.

Behind the humor, the video reveals the stories and dreams these staff members had before becoming part of the Polibatam community. The people students encounter in offices and campus service areas have personal journeys worth getting to know.

Today, through their respective roles, they support education and campus services at Polibatam. Support staff assist with administrative needs, help maintain campus operations, and provide services that students rely on throughout their studies.

Their careers may differ from their childhood aspirations, but opportunities to contribute and make a difference remain. Having pursued dreams of their own, they now also help students prepare for the future and achieve their ambitions.

The video reminds us that behind everyday campus activities are people working to keep services and operations running smoothly. Their journeys may have taken unexpected turns, but their contributions are an important part of Polibatam’s story.

What about you? Does your current job match your childhood dream, or has life given you a plot twist too?
