Polibatam Becomes a Collaborative Hub for Improving Automotive Mechanic Competencies Across Sumatra

BATAM — Politeknik Negeri Batam (Polibatam) hosted the Hybrid Transmission and Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) Training organized by Himpunan Otomotif Batam (HOB) on 26–27 September 2026. The activity served as a collaborative platform for automotive mechanics and practitioners to strengthen their competencies while expanding professional networks.

The training was attended by 51 participants from various regions, including Batam, Bangka Belitung, Jambi, Medan, and Riau. The participation of automotive practitioners from different areas reflected the growing need to enhance knowledge and technical skills in response to the rapid development of vehicle technology.

The training featured Didi Istardi, an expert in Electric Vehicles (EV) and hybrid technology, as well as Rio Denny Fatresa, an automotive practitioner who previously served as Workshop Manager at Ford Batam. Participants received comprehensive insights into hybrid transmission and dual clutch transmission technologies, covering system operation, common technical issues, and practical approaches to troubleshooting in the field.

Batam City Regional Secretary Firmansyah, who officially opened the event, stated that the increasing number of vehicles in Batam presents both opportunities and challenges for automotive service providers. He emphasized that continuous competency development is essential for mechanics to keep pace with technological advancements and provide increasingly professional services to the community.

Chairman of Himpunan Otomotif Batam, Bambang Ermanto, highlighted that the training was not only an opportunity to gain new knowledge but also a forum for exchanging experiences among automotive practitioners. He expressed hope that collaboration among the government, higher education institutions, industry, automotive communities, and the wider public would continue to grow in order to develop skilled and professional human resources.

Director of Polibatam, Bambang Hendrawan, welcomed the participants from various regions and reaffirmed Polibatam’s support for activities focused on improving technological competencies. He emphasized that collaboration of this kind strengthens the role of vocational higher education as a meeting point between academic learning and industrial practice in responding to rapid changes in automotive technology.

The Hybrid Transmission and Dual Clutch Transmission Training also reinforced Polibatam’s role as a vocational education institution that remains open to collaboration with communities and industries. Through this synergy, Polibatam hopes to contribute to the development of highly competent human resources in the automotive sector while supporting the growth of the automotive technology ecosystem in Batam and across Sumatra.
