BEM Polibatam Concludes PPK Ormawa Program, Delivering Sustainable Innovations for Community Empowerment in Batu Legong
BATAM – The Student Executive Board (Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa/BEM) of Politeknik Negeri Batam officially concluded the Student Organization Capacity Strengthening Program (Program Penguatan Kapasitas Organisasi Kemahasiswaan/PPK Ormawa) on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. The closing event marked the appreciation of student-led community empowerment initiatives carried out through various innovations addressing the needs of the Batu Legong community.
The event was attended by Vice Director III of Politeknik Negeri Batam Muhammad Zaenuddin, Head of Batu Legong Urban Village Rustan, PPK Ormawa Supervisor Kamarudin, President of Politeknik Negeri Batam Student Executive Board Aidil Azhar, representatives of local neighborhood associations (RT/RW), Rumah Zakat, Batam Amil Zakat Institution (LAZ Batam), the Sustainability Cadre Team, and members of the Batu Legong community.
Through the PPK Ormawa program, BEM Polibatam developed various innovation-based community empowerment initiatives focused on improving quality of life and strengthening community independence. The implemented programs include the application of Appropriate Technology Greenhouse, the development of a Digital Baby Scale System, Family Medicinal Plant (TOGA) Cultivation, organic waste management through maggot cultivation, and education on implementing a Clean and Healthy Lifestyle (Pola Hidup Bersih dan Sehat/PHBS).
These initiatives were designed to provide solutions for various community needs, including strengthening food security, utilizing simple technologies, improving environmental management, and increasing public awareness of health and hygiene. The involvement of students in the community represents Polibatam’s commitment to contributing to sustainable development through collaborative and impactful programs.

The implementation of the PPK Ormawa program involved collaboration among various stakeholders, including the local government, social institutions, communities, and residents. This collaboration plays an important role in ensuring that the developed programs can continue beyond the implementation period and provide sustainable benefits for the community.
Through the PPK Ormawa program, Politeknik Negeri Batam continues to encourage students to become agents of change through innovation, leadership, and community engagement. This initiative reflects the implementation of vocational education that not only prepares academically competent graduates but also develops socially responsible individuals capable of providing solutions to real-world challenges.
