POLIBATAM APPLIED METALLURGICAL ENGINEERING STUDENTS LEARN ABOUT BIMETALLIC PIPE PRODUCTION AT PT CLADTEK BI-METAL MANUFACTURING
BATAM – Students from the Applied Metallurgical Engineering Study Program at Politeknik Negeri Batam (Polibatam) took part in an industrial visit to PT Cladtek Bi-Metal Manufacturing in Batu Ampar, Batam, on Friday, August 7, 2026. The group was accompanied by two lecturers, Ninda Hardina Batubara, S.Pd., M.Si. and Haposan Vincentius Manalu, S.T., M.Sc., during the activity, which was held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
PT Cladtek Bi-Metal Manufacturing produces bimetallic pipes, which are steel pipes lined with corrosion-resistant alloys for use in the oil and gas industry. Operating its manufacturing facility in Batu Ampar and serving international markets, the company provided students with a firsthand look at how metallurgical knowledge is applied on an industrial scale while also introducing potential career pathways after graduation.
Before entering the production floor, all participants attended an occupational health and safety induction and were required to wear safety shoes and protective eyewear in accordance with the company’s HSE regulations. The experience gave students a direct understanding that safety discipline is an essential requirement in industrial working environments and applies equally to employees and visitors.
During the production tour, students observed machinery, raw materials, and manufacturing processes that they had previously studied through textbooks and classroom presentations. Company representatives explained the functions of each production area, allowing the students to connect theoretical metallurgical concepts with their actual applications in the field.
The visit also included a knowledge-sharing session with professionals from PT Cladtek. They explained the company’s business process, from receiving customer orders to preparing finished products for delivery, as well as the competencies expected from vocational graduates entering the industry. Through the discussion, students gained a clearer understanding of the technical skills, professional attitudes, and workplace readiness required by the manufacturing sector.

“Students need to see firsthand how a factory operates. Once they stand on the production floor, the lessons they study in class become more tangible, and they understand why those subjects are important,” said Coordinator of the Applied Metallurgical Engineering Study Program, Ir. Adhe Aryswan, S.Pd., M.Si.
The Applied Metallurgical Engineering Study Program expressed its appreciation to the management of PT Cladtek Bi-Metal Manufacturing for welcoming the students and providing valuable industry insights. Polibatam continues to position industrial visits as a regular learning activity so that students can become familiar with professional working environments from their early years of study while strengthening collaboration between Polibatam and the metallurgical industry in Batam.
