Polibatam Declares Waste Segregation Movement, Independent TPST Officially Operates

BATAM – Politeknik Negeri Batam (Polibatam) continues to strengthen its commitment to becoming an environmentally friendly campus. Through an event held at the Polibatam Auditorium, the institution officially declared the movement “One Campus, One Action: Waste Segregation” as part of its Green Campus for Sustainability program.

More than just a ceremonial event, all participants—including lecturers, students, and campus staff—collectively recited a declaration as a tangible commitment to environmental responsibility, starting from a simple yet impactful action: sorting waste from now on.

The event was further enriched by expert speakers who shared valuable insights on waste management. One of the key concepts introduced was “Sort – Process – Benefit,” emphasizing that waste should not merely be discarded, but can be transformed into useful products such as compost or eco-enzyme.

A major highlight of the initiative is the official operation of Polibatam’s independent Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST – Tempat Pengolahan Sampah Terpadu). In its initial phase, the facility focuses on processing organic waste into compost, which can be utilized for campus greening efforts and holds potential for future commercialization.

Moving forward, waste management at Polibatam will be further enhanced through a structured segregation system, categorizing waste into organic, inorganic, paper, hazardous (B3), and residual waste. This initiative encourages the entire academic community to dispose of waste more responsibly and systematically.

In addition, Polibatam officially inaugurated the Green Campus Ambassadors 2026, who are expected to serve as key drivers and influencers in promoting environmentally responsible lifestyles across campus. They will play a strategic role in fostering awareness and encouraging sustainable practices among the academic community.

Through this movement, Polibatam demonstrates that meaningful change begins with small, consistent actions—starting from ourselves, starting today.
