Academic Synergy: UNIMED’s Geographic Information Science Program and Polibatam’s Geomatics Engineering Strengthen Strategic Collaboration
The program commenced with opening remarks representing the Vice Director for Student Affairs, delivered by the Head of the Informatics Engineering Department at Polibatam, Ahmad Hamim Thohari, S.S.T., M.T. This was followed by remarks from the Vice Director III of Polibatam for Student Affairs, Cooperation, and Alumni, Dr. Muhammad Zaenuddin, S.Si., M.Sc., and the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of the Faculty of Social Sciences (FIS) UNIMED, Muhammad Ridha Syafii Damanik, S.Pi., M.Sc., reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening inter-institutional collaboration.
Following the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Implementation Agreement (IA), along with the exchange of souvenirs, the agenda continued with insightful academic presentations addressing current and relevant issues. Dr. Meilinda Suriani Harefa, M.Si., highlighted the importance of spatial certainty and geoportals in accelerating investment in Special Economic Zones. Meanwhile, Sudra Irawan, S.Pd.Si., M.Sc., discussed the spatial dynamics of Batam as Indonesia’s front gateway from the perspective of geographic literacy.

The series of activities concluded with an interactive discussion session and a field facility tour, providing participants with the opportunity to directly explore Polibatam’s geomatics technology infrastructure and gain practical insights.
