Strengthening the Semiconductor and AI Ecosystem, Deputy Minister of National Development Planning (BAPPENAS) Visits Polibatam Facilities

BATAM – In an effort to strengthen national development planning based on evidence and the actual conditions on the ground, the Deputy Minister of National Development Planning/Deputy Head of BAPPENAS, Febrian Alphyanto Ruddyard, conducted a strategic working visit to several industrial and educational sites in the Riau Islands Province on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. This visit focused on strengthening the high-tech manufacturing industry ecosystem, supporting downstream processes and digitalization such as semiconductors and AI, accelerating the green energy transition, and developing human resources through vocational higher education. These three areas are part of the national priorities outlined in the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2025-2029.

The Riau Islands Province was selected due to its strategic position as a base for export-oriented industries and its ecosystem that connects vocational education with the manufacturing industry. The series of visits began with the opening of a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) at the Radisson Hotel, accompanied by the Deputy for Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, followed by a direct visit to the production facilities of PT Schneider Electric Manufacturing.

One of the main agendas of this visit was the strengthening of human resource quality through vocational higher education at Polibatam. The Deputy Minister of PPN/Bappenas, who was also accompanied by the Chairman of the Indonesian Industrial Zones Association (HKI), Ahmad Ma’ruf Maulana, and their delegation, visited the Polibatam campus and emphasized that synergy between educational institutions and industry players is a key prerequisite to achieving a highly competitive national economic transformation.

During the visit to the Polibatam educational facilities, the Deputy Minister of PPN/Bappenas expressed his support for these initiatives.
